(May 4, 2020) — Organizers of the 42nd Freihofer’s Run for Women today announced that the event will donate more than $15,000 to three regional charities that are playing important roles supporting the Capital Region community during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The all-women road race, which is set to be held virtually between Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 31, will contribute $5,000 each to Albany Medical Center's COVID-19 Response Fund, The Community Foundation For the Greater Capital Region and the United Way of the Greater Capital Region’s COVID-19 Response Fund, and Girls on the Run Capital Region. “The Freihofer's Run for Women has been an integral part of the Capital Region for four decades and this year has proven to be the most challenging yet for our participants and the region,” said Kristen Hislop, co-director of the Freihofer's Run for Women. “During this difficult time, we know that many non-profits are struggling to support our communities in the manner to which they are normally accustomed. Freihofer’s® Run For Women Switches To Virtual 5k Run For 2020

ALBANY, N.Y. (April 3, 2020) — With the continued importance of social distancing stemming from the worldwide coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), officials at the Freihofer’s Run for Women (FRW) today announced that the event’s 42nd edition on Saturday, May 30 has been cancelled and a virtual 5K option offered to those interested. “Since 1979, the Freihofer’s Run for Women has encountered snow, torrential downpours, high winds and oppressive heat, but never a global pandemic like the one posed by the COVID-19 virus,” said FRW Co-Director Kristen Hislop. “With the current distancing guidelines in place from New York state, we felt we had to take this action. Our number one priority is the health and well-being of our participants and their families, volunteers, spectators and sponsors. “While we are heartbroken to cancel all events related to the event and postponing wasn’t an option for a number of different reasons, we felt we must find a way to keep the Freihofer’s Run for Women 5K going, since it’s a spring tradition dating back more than 40 years,” she continued. “As a result, we will offer a virtual Freihofer’s Run for Women 5K for those who would like to participate.  Our virtual 5K is [...]

Coronavirus and Impact on the Run for Women

Update April 3, 2020 Freihofer’s® Run For Women Switches To Virtual 5k Run For 2020. Read the full statement. Update March 13, 2020 Dear Runners, We are aware of concerns in the community about the spread of COVID-19, caused by the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). We are closely monitoring this fluid situation and following guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and NYS Department of Health (NSDOH). We currently have no plans to postpone or cancel either the Freihofer’s Training Challenge or the 2020 Freihofer's Run for Women and associated events, but will continue to re-evaluate as more information becomes available. Like with all viruses and illnesses, there’s a tremendous reliance on individual precautions.  The New York State Department of Health (DOH) recommends the following ways to minimize the spread of all respiratory viruses, including 2019-nCoV: Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Stay home when you are sick. Cover your mouth and nose with a [...]
